Our mission is simple. We empower autistic youth to embrace who they are as amazing autistic people through drama, conversation and fun.
The Sycamore Gig was founded by husband and wife, Lisa Malone Butwell and Scot Butwell, parents to a teen on the spectrum. The Sycamore Gig is not run by therapists and therefore not a therapeutic program. The vision for The Sycamore Gig has been in Lisa’s heart for years.
Lisa has carried this vision in her heart for this program/organization for years seeing how many autistic young adults she followed on Instagram were self advocates for autism. Seeing this she believed this to be something necessary to start in kids from a young age.
We believe autistic people are the experts of autism. And as teens grow into adulthood it is them who can educate others on what autism is based on their personal experience.
The Sycamore Gig is not a therapeutic program. Our eight week program organically enhances participants strengths and challenges of autism, grows their confidence, self advocacy and …..
Although not a therapeutic program, participants of The Sycamore Gig will reap benefits
“I’ve always taught my son to own who he is…”
